18TH C BLACKSMITH'S DAYBOOK - Daybook Ledger of the First Blacksmith in Watervliet, NY, Benjamin Knowler, born in Roxbury, CT in 1774, died in Watervliet in 1839, with entries ranging from 1793 to 1806, detailing repairs to farm implements, giving names of the influential men of the town, ending with notes about his son (?) going to sea, listing ships, masters and destinations, in the original leather binding, 8" x 13", first twenty pages or so used as a scrapbook during the Civil War, with marching song sheets interspersed, weak bonding, scattered foxing, soiling.
