RARE 1776 MASSACHUSETTS COUNCIL MILITARY DOCUMENT - Provincial Congress Revolutionary War Appointment of Moses Davis, Edgecomb (now Maine) as "Second Major of the Third Regiment of the Militia in the County of Lincoln, whereof Wm Jones Esquire is Colonel", signed by John Avery, Perez Morton & fifteen members of the council. This is a treasonous document, dated 14 Feb, 1776 in Watertown, early in the war. The Council or Provisional Congress was organized Oct 7, 1774 in Salem, Mass with John Hancock as President, Boston was then occupied by the British. The council served as Governor until the State Constitution was written in 1780 and Hancock became the first Governor. Rarely would so many members have signed a single document, especially for the officers in the hinterlands. Certified in council Sept 9, 1776. Moses Davis (1743-1824) was a housewright, lived on Davis Island, off Edgecomb. He was famous for rowing his children to school every day, no matter the weather. Signed by William Sever (then president), Benjamin Greenleaf, Walter Spooner, Caleb Cushing, Harold Cushing, John Whitcomb, James Prescott, Michael Farley, Eliad Taylor, James Palmer, Jabez Fisher, Samuel Holton, John Taylor and Moses Gill (later 7th Gov) White. Approved in Council Sept 9, 1776 (by then in Boston). On the British form with the heading scratched out and "The Government & People of Massachusetts Bay, New England" written in, heavy wove paper with colonial paper seal. 13" x 16 1/2" sheet of laid paper preserved between two pieces of glass. From a Wiscasset, Maine estate.

2) Buyers are to pay GP&S (or other shipper) directly for their services. Any damage or delivery issues (regardless of any assistance offered by TPAG) are between the buyer and GP&S or other shipper chosen by the buyer.
3) Shipping will occur after all payments have been made. The shipper will have the most up-to-date shipping and tracking information.
4) Shipments will be insured for the full purchase price unless other coverage is requested.
5) Customers may make their own arrangements with a shipper other than GP&S; however, there may be sales tax implications (see "Sales Tax" section). Your items will be released for shipping once full payment is received
6) Items left at TPAG for more than 30 days after the date of the auction will be subject to a storage fee of $10 per day/per item unless prior arrangements have been made.
7) The inability to find an acceptable shipping option is NOT a reason for non-payment of an item's full purchase price.
8) TPAG will not alter any catalog descriptions, or declare less than the full purchase price on any international customs paperwork. All international customs documents and costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
9) Those who choose to pick up their property from TPAG following the sale are requested to call 24 hours in advance to make arrangements.
