IMPORTANT NEEDLEWORK MEMORIAL
''Memorial to Washington'' by Cynthia Bushnell Wilcox, 1804, silk thread and paint on silk, depicting Lady Liberty holding a flag with cap and chalice aloft for a supping eagle, all guarding a tiny homestead with a young couple and ''husband and wife'' trees. Probably made at the Abby Wright School, South Hadley, MA. In period lemon gold molded frame, glazed, OS: 21- 3/4" x 17- 3/4", SS: 17- 1/2" x 13- 1/2", faded, minor foxing.
PROVENANCE: The reverse has label from the Museum of American Folk Art NYC exhibition "Liberties with Liberty", Feb. 1986 - Sept. 1987, along with conservator''s seal of Lucy Commoner, Textile Conservator for the Cooper-Hewitt Museum at the Smithsonian, dated May, 1985.
LITERATURE: Stacy C. Hollander & Brook Davis Anderson, "American Anthem: Masterworks from the American Folk Art Museum", May 1, 2002, Exhibit Catalog; pg. 303, the curator writes; "At least four additional examples of this theme are known; all represent Liberty as a charming young woman with ringlet hair, fashionably garbed a la grecque, and carrying a liberty pole topped by a pileus, a close fitting cap worn in ancient Rome and symbolizing liberty."

1) We have hired Global Packing & Shipping (GP&S) as our designated shipper. Shortly after the auction, you will receive an email from them with a quote for shipping. 2) Buyers are to pay GP&S (or other shipper) directly for their services. Any damage or delivery issues (regardless of any assistance offered by TPAG) are between the buyer and GP&S or other shipper chosen by the buyer.
3) Shipping will occur after all payments have been made. The shipper will have the most up-to-date shipping and tracking information.
4) Shipments will be insured for the full purchase price unless other coverage is requested.
5) Customers may make their own arrangements with a shipper other than GP&S; however, there may be sales tax implications (see "Sales Tax" section). Your items will be released for shipping once full payment is received.
6) Items left at TPAG for more than 30 days after the date of the auction will be subject to a storage fee of $10 per day/per item unless prior arrangements have been made.
7) The inability to find an acceptable shipping option is NOT a reason for non-payment of an item's full purchase price.
8) TPAG will not alter any catalog descriptions, or declare less than the full purchase price on any international customs paperwork. All international customs documents and costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
9) If you choose to pick up your property from TPAG, we request that you call 24 hours in advance to make arrangements.
