JOHN NEAGLE SIGNED AUTOGRAPH LETTER- Neagle (1796-1865) American artist of Philadelphia, primarily of portraits and most significantly, "Pat Lyon at the Forge" 1829, which set a new standard for American portraiture by depicting a subject in the role of a laborer rather than of a gentleman. 8" x 5". In the signed letter, dated Oct. 30, 1851, Neagle declines an invitation to tea. With a clipped signature dated 18 Sept. 1805 of "Patty Lyon" the subject of Neagle's most famous work. Good condition.
