(2) MINIATURE PORTRAITS - Including: ATTRIBUTED TO CHARLES WILLSON PEALE (MA/PA, 1741-1838) - Miniature Portrait of John Fishbourne Mifflin (1759-1813), oil on ivory, identified verso and dated 1782, in the original frame. OS: 4 1/4" x 3 5/8", SS: 2" x 1 1/2". John F. Mifflin was the son of John Mifflin and Sarah Fishbourne (her father was Mayor of Philadelphia). His half-brother Thomas Mifflin, was the first Governor of Pennsylvania after the Revolution. When John Mifflin died, Sarah remarried, to John Beale Bordley, who owned most of Wye Island, Maryland. Younger John acted as Bordley's private secretary in Phila, they were then close to George and Martha Washington. Bordley paid to send Charles Willson Peale to England to study painting. John F. Mifflin was made a Member of the Philosophical Society in 1796, was a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania from 1802-1813, took part in the Pike Expedition, mapping the Louisiana Purchase, married a Ross heiress and lived in 'The Grange' outside of Philadelphia. He is now best known for keeping the earliest surviving 'gay' diary, from his college years at U Penn, exchanges with Dr. Gibson at Princeton. This miniature belonged to Sims McGrath, son of Francis Sims McGrath, brother of Peggy McGrath Rockefeller; PLUS: CHARLES BALTHAZAR JULIEN SAINT MEMIN (1770-1852) - Round Profile Portrait of John Beale Bordeley in black and white, OS: 4 1/2" diam, SS: 2" diam. 1) We have hired Global Packing & Shipping (GP&S) as our designated shipper. Shortly after the auction, you will receive an email from them with a quote for shipping. 2) Buyers are to pay GP&S (or other shipper) directly for their services. Any damage or delivery issues (regardless of any assistance offered by TPAG) are between the buyer and GP&S or other shipper chosen by the buyer.
3) Shipping will occur after all payments have been made. The shipper will have the most up-to-date shipping and tracking information.
4) Shipments will be insured for the full purchase price unless other coverage is requested.
5) Customers may make their own arrangements with a shipper other than GP&S; however, there may be sales tax implications (see "Sales Tax" section). Your items will be released for shipping once full payment is received.
6) Items left at TPAG for more than 30 days after the date of the auction will be subject to a storage fee of $10 per day/per item unless prior arrangements have been made.
7) The inability to find an acceptable shipping option is NOT a reason for non-payment of an item's full purchase price.
8) TPAG will not alter any catalog descriptions, or declare less than the full purchase price on any international customs paperwork. All international customs documents and costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
9) If you choose to pick up your property from TPAG, we request that you call 24 hours in advance to make arrangements.
