1939 CITROEN TRACTION AVANT

French Automaker Andre Citroen introduced the Traction Avant (translated from the French as "Front Traction", or front-wheel drive) in 1934, incorporating many innovative design and engineering concepts that we take for granted today in our modern cars. Examples of these include, as mentioned, Front-Wheel drive, torsion-bar rear suspension, Unitized, Semi-Monocoque Body, and Rack & Pinion Steering, just to name a few. The rest of the worldwide automotive industry would be many decades adopting these design and engineering features!

Andre Citroen would stake his career and reputation by investing millions in multiple factories throughout Europe that would crank out 760,000 units between 1934 and 1957. These cars were used in every facet of human endeavor, be it family cars, police cars, commercial vehicles, taxis, and on and on, all over the world.

Citroen is still a juggernaut in the world automotive scene, and they're building new cars today, but have not been widely present in America since the 1970s, presumably due to the influx of U.S. regulations that befell all car manufacturers at that time.

The item before you, a 1939 Citroen Traction Avant is a running, driving and complete example of an important piece of history, well deserving of a full restoration to commemorate the marque's innovation of over 90 years ago. Equipped with a 4 cylinder (believed to be 1.9 litre) and 3 speed, dash shifted manual transmission, this car has the "good bones" necessary to conduct a successful and important restoration.
