RARE EARLY SET ZEISS BINOCULARS - 1898 Field Binoculars with Tripod in later custom case, Zeiss nr 11165; F 20, 40, 60 x 80, in black enameled bronze with applied black leather grips (one replaced), engraved on hood 'G.T.B., Oct 28th, 1928'. There was a Dr. Barre, an employee of Zeiss, who traveled aboard the Graf Zeppelin as official photographer on the first trans-Atlantic flight that landed on this date, he later crossed the North Pole aboard the same airship. Consignor's family history held that this went to the North Pole with Peary. This instrument is 22" long, has a 3" objective, with the original oak tripod in fitted case with label 'Aitchison & Company Opticians, 483 Fifth Avenue, New York', with lock and key, 7" x 32 1/2" x 14 1/2", good condition.
